Waitsfield covered bridge
Happy spring! It feels more like summer lately, and with more great weather on the horizon, I hope everyone is able to get outdoors and enjoy it.

It's construction season in Vermont and our 2024 fiber construction projects are well underway. Our employees and contractors are busy working on capital construction projects throughout our service area.
  • If you are included in one of our fiber build areas scheduled for this year, we will be reaching out to let you know that fiber is coming to your location as our construction progresses.
  • In areas where we have completed mainline construction, our contractor crews are focused on pre-running fiber-optic drops to homes prior to us scheduling your fiber conversion.
Also, to help keep you updated on our fiber projects and availability, please visit getfiber.wcvt.com and register your address. The "Service Area" link has our build areas mapped and broken out by status which may be helpful to you.

Please know that every single dollar we invest in fiber is benefiting Vermont and the local communities we serve. These are big projects and building fiber to everyone is going to take time, but each and every day, we are making progress and converting more customers to fiber.

Sincerely,

Eric Haskin
President and CEO

Is Your Internet "Dropping?" Are You Having Buffering On Your SmartTV? In Many Cases, It's Not Your Internet Connection At All... Might Be Time To Upgrade Your Wi-Fi

These days, we are all relying on our internet connections more than ever before. We are using it for more mission critical applications as well as more bandwidth intensive uses such as streaming video and other real-time video services like Zoom. We often get calls from customers complaining about "slow speeds," "drops," or "buffering," among other things. The first thing we do is check the internet connection and, in many cases, we find no issues. So, what could it be? Up to 60% of our calls these days are Wi-Fi related and this may just be the case. The good news is we have some great solutions.

Our Whole Home Wi-Fi uses multiple Access Points placed at strategic locations around your home to expand coverage, eliminating dead spots, and providing great performance for all of your streaming devices.

Waitsfield and Champlain Valley Telecom Announces Scholarship Recipient

Mount Abraham Union High School student Desmond Carrico has been awarded a $2,500.00 scholarship from the Foundation for Rural Service (FRS). Founded in 1994, FRS is the philanthropic arm of NTCA - The Rural Broadband Association, of which Waitsfield and Champlain Valley Telecom is a member. The FRS Scholarship Program awards one-time scholarships to students from rural communities for their first year of college, university, or vocational-technical school. Each student is sponsored by an NTCA member company that may also contribute a portion of the scholarship award. This year, FRS awarded a total of $173,000 for fifty-five scholarships to students across the country.

"Providing opportunities for young people in rural communities has been a core mission for FRS for the past 30 years. These scholarships would not be possible without the generous support of NTCA members and other individuals in the rural broadband industry. We are excited to announce our 2024 scholarship recipients and look forward to seeing what they accomplish in the future", said Pam Becker, Executive Director of FRS.

"Being selected to receive one of this year's FRS scholarships was not an easy accomplishment. This was an extremely competitive process, with over 1,300 applications received. A big congratulations to Desmond and we wish him the best of luck as he starts his college career this fall at Saint Michael's College," said Kurt Gruendling, Vice President of Marketing and Business Development for WCVT and FRS board member.
