Improve Your Wi-Fi Experience

Wi-Fi is a critical part of your home network that you rely on each and every day. Often we don’t think about the number of devices that we are connecting to our network using a wireless connection. Historically, we relied on wired connections to do the heavy lifting, but in today’s wireless environment, we need a reliable, secure Wi-Fi network to provide coverage throughout your home.

Why It's Different AirTies Wi-Fi
Unlike traditional Wi-Fi, which relies on a single access point (AP) to provide coverage, Whole Home Wi-Fi from Green Mountain Access utilizes multiple Access Points placed at strategic locations around your home to create an intelligent Mesh network that ensures consistent performance of high quality, whole-home Wi-Fi coverage.

Expand Coverage and Eliminate Dead Spots
Each access point connects to the other to act as a distributed, autonomous wireless network. This means that no matter where you are in your home, you’ll have access to fast and reliable internet service – no more dead spots!

Pricing
Whole Home Wi-Fi from Green Mountain Access is just $10.90* per month and includes two AirTies 4920 ac Wi-Fi access points. Additional Wi-Fi access points can be added for $5.45* per month for each additional access point if needed for your specific installation.

For more information, visit http://www.wcvt.com/services/wi-fi/residential/ or contact Richard at 496-8360 to order Whole Home Wi-Fi for your home or small business.

*Whole Home Wi-Fi equipment requires Green Mountain Access high-speed Internet service and a DSL modem/router.

WCVT Announces Scholarship Recipients

Waitsfield and Champlain Valley Telecom is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2017 Eunice B. Farr Incentive Award scholarships.  “It is a pleasure to award these scholarships on an annual basis.  We wish these motivated students the best of luck in their future endeavors,” said Gregg Haskin, President and CEO of Waitsfield and Champlain Valley Telecom. This year’s recipients were as follows:

Champlain Valley Union High School – Cody Fournier – Hinesburg

Harwood Union High School – Evan Pearl – Moretown

Mount Abraham Union High School – Taylor Morrow – Essex Junction

Mount Mansfield Union High School – Nicholas Metruk – Huntington

Middlebury Union High School – Alan James Campbell – E. Middlebury

Vergennes High School – Lillian Russell – Addison

Each year, Waitsfield and Champlain Valley Telecom grants six scholarships, one to each of the public high schools that students from our service area attend.  These scholarships are donated in memory of the late Eunice B. Farr, former owner and operator of the Waitsfield-Fayston Telephone Company and grandmother of Gregg Haskin.  The criteria of the scholarship is as follows, “The award should be presented to a graduating senior that plans subsequent education, be it college or trade school.  The faculty should select an individual that has shown a steady improvement in his or her academics, but is not necessarily at the top of the class.  The award is designed to benefit a hard working graduate that his or her instructors have found to demonstrate a sincere effort to improve grades/results and plans continuing education.”

Evan Pearl, recent Harwood Union HS graduate stopped by the office to thank Gregg Haskin for being selected as one of this year's Eunice B. Farr Incentive Award recipients. Congrats Evan and all graduates - we are proud of you!

Scam Alert - Beware of "Too Good To Be True" Travel Deals

A travel scam could ruin your vacation so keep your eyes open. "Free"
vacations that actually take your money, extreme cancellation policies, and accommodations not being available once you arrive are just a few variations on this theme. Here are some tips on being a savvy travel shopper:

~ Shop smart. Think of travel as you would any other item or service you purchase and follow the same good practices. Seek out reliable providers, read all the fine print, and know exactly what you're getting before you pull out your credit card.

~ Pay with plastic. Make purchases with a credit card, not cash or a check. This way, if anything goes wrong, you can dispute the charges with your credit card company.

~ Define "free." If someone says you've won a free vacation, be skeptical and find out what you have to do   or pay   in order to claim it.

~ Be proactive. Never do business with companies that contact you out of the blue without checking them out thoroughly first.

~ Do your research. Before reserving a chartered package, check out the U.S. Department of Transportation's list of approved public chartered flights.

Finally, use common sense! If a travel offer smells fishy, take the time to investigate it and walk away if needed.

Short Tutorial/FAQ - How Do I Use Facebook Live?

Question: Some of the friends and organizations I follow on Facebook have posted Facebook Live streams. It looks really interesting, and I'd like to try it, but I don't know how it works. What are the steps?

Answer: Facebook Live is a fun and immediate way to connect with your friends. Here's how to use it:

1. For best results, use Facebook Live when you have a strong connection.
Wi-Fi works best.

2. Start as you would for any other type of Facebook post   by tapping on "What's on your mind" at the top of your News Feed.

3. Select Go Live.

4. You'll be prompted to allow Facebook to take pictures and record video, and then describe your video, and identify your audience.

5. When you're ready, tap the GO LIVE button. There will be a three-second countdown, and then your video stream will start.

6. Film yourself and watch for responses from followers. You can respond by speaking directly to them.

7. When you're ready to end, click Finish.
