Giving TreeWCVT In The Community

Holiday Giving Tree and Food Shelf Donations

Helping our friends and neighbors is very important to us. In the true spirit of holiday giving, we were able to make more than $6,500 in contributions to many local food shelves in our service territory and also donate gifts to approximately 500 children in the local communities we serve. Gifts were distributed through our local schools and community food shelves. Hopefully we were able to make the holidays a little brighter for others.

Tutorials/FAQ

Short Tutorial / FAQ - WHAT IS A LEGACY CONTACT ON FACEBOOK?

Question: A legacy contact is the person who looks after your Facebook account when it's memorialized upon your death. This may sound morbid, but it's a smart thing to think about since social media accounts are assets that -- like your physical property -- need to be somehow managed after you pass on.

Answer: If you agree to serve in this role for your friend, you would be expected to write a pinned post (which would remain permanently at the top of her Timeline), such as a final message or memorial service information. You would also be in charge of responding to new friend requests and updating her profile picture and cover photo. Things you wouldn't be able to do include logging into your friend's account, changing past posts, reading her messages, or removing any of her friends.

Selecting a legacy contact is easy:

1. Click the Privacy Shortcuts down-arrow in the upper-right corner of your Facebook home page.

2. From the menu, select Settings. In the left column, select Security.

3. On the Security Settings list, choose Legacy Contact and follow the directions from there.

Scam Alert - Watch For Amazon Phishing Scams

Online scammers have found a way to compromise just about every online service out there, and Amazon is no exception. If you get an email claiming to be from Amazon about an order you didn't place, or saying your order cannot be shipped, it may be a spoof. It's important not to take action based on the information in these messages, especially by giving away personal information.

Often these messages include instructions to click a link to a false website that then requests your Amazon account information (which scammers can use to commit fraud). Know that legitimate correspondence from Amazon will never require you to provide any confidential information such as your account password, Social Security number, bank account information, or any other personal data.

Other ways to spot the spoofs include watching for extensive grammatical or typographical errors and checking the return email address. If the email address is from any domain other than amazon.com, it's not from Amazon. This is also true for any websites you might be prompted to visit.

To avoid being a victim of these scams, follow these tips:

~ When in doubt, go to amazon.com, login to your account, and view your order information from there.

~ Don't follow the "unsubscribe" link from a suspicious email.

~ Beware of offers that sound too good to be true.

~ Never download attachments unless you're sure of the sender.

~ Report spoofs to Amazon at
www.amazon.com/gp/help/contact-us/report-phishing.html.

If you think you've been a victim of such a scam, immediately change your Amazon password, contact the company of any credit cards you may have given information about, and run a full anti-virus or anti-malware scan on your computer.

Remember, the scammers are smart, but you can be smarter!
